Something to say for October post

It is almost the end of October and unfortunately, I still haven't got anything to post. So just not to leave the month of October empty from any post, I pasted the about me page on my Friendster account.

Here it is...

There's something about describing myself which makes me uneasy. Maybe because after years of existence, i still do not know a lot of things about me. But I guess, that's the fun part, discovering new things which I did not know existed. That probably is what makes me enjoy this life more.

A little info about me is the fact that I am insatiable. i thought i would never get over things that i was addicted into for a month but i was wrong. A month after, i would go gaga over other things and so on...

oh, maybe there's one that i am
fixated-watching cartoons and playing computer and arcade games..boy, the older i get, the fascination grew even more.

I like to discover and learn new things. this one trait i like about myself. i always wanted to try doing something fresh.

I love my family. My parents and siblings and my new interests-my 2 nieces! don't fret, theres another one coming! when you grow older, you realized how much of an impact a familiy is in you. They're my backbone that keeps me straight up.

My friends are one source of inspiration. Life, party, heartaches and happy moments would be useless if they are not around.

Guess, that's all i can think of as for now. As said, i am still discovering new things about me. glad for you to read.u

When Mother Nature Strikes Back...

A thought on Global Warming and the Typhoon Ondoy aftermath.

September 27, 2009- Davao City, Philippines.

I woke up usually late in the morning for I always sleep late the nights before. I noticed that there was a light rain and it was a gloomy morning. I checked on my email and Facebook and I found out that the UAAP basketball finals was cancelled due to typhoon. I thought that it was the usual typhoon that flood Metro Manila-as always.

I was preparing for school late that morning when I opened the Television and saw the heavy rains upnorth being telecast. Here in South, we only experienced isolated rainfall suffice to say I was not really materially injured.

I went to school and the rain was sort of becoming light to medium showers. My friends and I were enjoying the weather because it was a good day for talks and discussions. While we were doing group talks, my classmate mentioned that the Bar Exam will be cancelled because of flood. It did not really bothered how catastrophic the typhoon was until I went home that night and saw the news.

I was tuned in to ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel), when a celebrity named Chrisitne Reyes was interviewed and was crying for help. She was on the roof of her house and was desperately needs help. It was quite a shock on my part upon realizing how enormous the flooding would be considering that people on that village opted to stay on the roof and even saying that if the rain would not stop they would like be drowned. When an aerial view was shown on TV, it seemed that Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon were covered with waters. The only thing that can be clearly seen were roofs and some people. It was an unbelievable sight.

Honestly, it was the worst flooding I ever saw in my life. True, I was not there to experience it firsthand but seeing those victims lost their homes, crying for help, etc. were enough for me to realize how bad the effects of the typhoon was. I was also worried of some friends who are living in the north. All that I can do was to pray for their safety.

Now we can all agree that this is one of the consequences of not taking care of our environment. Landslides and flashfloods which are caused by typhoons and heavy rains which also results to the loss of life and properties. Garbage thrown anywhere which clogged the drainage contributes to flood, inundation, overflowing of rivers, etc. Who's to blame on this? Some people blame the government for not putting much emphasis on flood control projects and other environment-friendly projects. I would say blame it to discipline, for being not part of us. We could not just put the fault on the government and to other people. It is too bad that we (that includes me) get to have these sentiments when a disaster or tragedy happens. Maybe because this is the only time that we get to be reminded by God and Nature that we are just human and we do not control everything. That, we do not have the power to abuse and destroy our environment because when mother nature strikes back, we definitely are nothing but a mere unimportant living creature being wiped out.

As for today, Typhoon Ondoy's rampage left 73 deaths and counting for there are still who are missing and leaving thousands of people homeless and displaced.

Just a rant!

If Serena Williams was able to rant out (and cursed) the line judge for a bad call, and even the good natured Roger Federer, I myself would like to join the party since I have my own share of ranting as well.

I am one of the millions of people worldwide who was trying to make a living by working online. I'm still on the process of looking for one right now and honestly, such journey is a disappointment so far. When I googled "work online", "jobs online", "homebased jobs", etc, the search will showed links like earning thousand of dollars by making things, doing that, etc.. but in the end, it's either you'll pay them for some registration fees or the sites are plainly well, a scam.

I read other people's blogs regarding some online jobs and some swear that there are really those online jobs which are legit. One of those are the freelance sites which offers a variety of freelance jobs. I browsed each of them and the only job which makes me qualify is Data entry. I applied hoping for my first break but oh, i found out that there were ten others (and more) who also applied and some of them have good resumes unlike mine. To make the long story short, i did not make it.

I said to myself, why not try those get paid to sites? I did! fortunately, neobux paid me $5 for the many months of clicking while others scammed me and put my time, energy and money to waste. Ofcourse, as Serena put it, "if I just could xxx those people who wasted my time and money!

Right now, I am thinking that I should've just taken an IT course in college or maybe journalism because as i see things, these are those whose talents are badly needed in some legit companies and they even offer a great pay for these jobs.

Or I'd rather enjoy internet as the best source of information(right and wrong) and as the best way to waste my time and concentrate on my other priority...Studies and law school.

A moving Experience

**** This was written a few weeks back***

When a classmate asked me if I would like to attend a para-legal seminar, I readily agreed thinking that it would help me understand the course that I'm taking and to know how things take place in the legal profession. It was all about academic purposes that I was after since we had good speakers to begin with.

Day 1: Indoor Seminar

I was not used to wake up early morning so I dragged myself up inorder not to be late that morning. The day started very well as one of the speakers ( a female prosecutor) recalled to us the process of filing a complaint and other pleadings in criminal cases. It was indeed very helpful because she explained it very well that I actually learned quite the same amount of info's in that amount of time with the info's I got from 6 months of going to school! At the middle of the seminar, I realized that doing para-legal is a very exciting but tedious job. We had several speakers who imparted their very vast knowledge of laws and jurisprudence. All in all, it was a fruitful first day out of two day seminar. Then, before we about to depart, one of the moderators (an RTC judge and a professor), told us that he expected our commitment to this program. That somehow alarmed me since I know, it would eat a lot of my time.

Day 2: The trip

We were told the day before that we're going to have several trips from Talomo Police station to Davao City jail. In talomo, the police forces oriented us on the procedures from arresting criminals to putting them in jail. I personally was intimated seeing the inmates for the first time. There was about 11 of them in that jail, composed of men around their 50's or 40's, some about my age and others were younger than I am. But later on, when they talked to us about their condition, I felt sad about their plight. The food was limited, the place was not conducive and worst, some of them were forgotten by their loved ones.

After the Talomo visit, our bus went to the City jail. It was my first time. I only see jails on tv and movies so the first actual experience to be "inside" was quite tense. Our group leader led us to the women's area. I'm surprised. Really. The place is far from a prison. It was more of a housing compound composed of small colorful houses piling neatly at the middle surrounding with flowers and vegetable gardens. The women in that place performed songs and dances for us. As I was listening to the songs, I realized that they are happy to see us thinking that maybe, we paralegals, law students and future lawyers put in one could somehow help them in their plight. I saw the glimmer of hope in their eyes when we were introduced to them. I saw that they welcomed us and felt their desperate needs in their cases. It was sad that most of these women's case are drug-related. No, they are not addicts but they were charged as pushers and for selling prohibited drugs. To my mind, there was no other reason that led these women to drugs but poverty. I was right. It is mostly the reason why as told by our moderators. Now, you may argue that the means does not justify the end but seriously, who are we to judge?

After our visit to the women's area, we went to the men's. This time, it was the exact opposite. The jails seemed congested as seen from the outside. The inmates were grouped depending on the cases their faced with. To my mind I said, "Now, this is prison". As the jailwarden talked to us, he was very compassionate about the difficulties that the inmates are facing. He humbly welcomed us for any help that we can give. He asked as to be understanding and not to be judgemental. We never stayed long in the men's cell since we were running out of time and we were supposed to go to court for the procedures but due to time constraint, the trip was cancelled. After our lunch, they assigned our cases to us. We were grouped in teams and each team is composed of two individuals. Me and my teammate Mik were given two cases, one was a drug case and the other an estafa case.

Honestly, I am not sure if I would be of help to these women. Ofcourse, our aim here is not to set them free or acquitt them (for those proven guilty) but to give what is due to them under the law. The cases given to us are for those who could not afford lawyers much more to file bond. It is disheartening to see them desperate for help. I hope that in coming weeks after my exam, I'd be able to visit and talk to my client. I really wish i could be of help.
